Painted Rock Garden Markers For Kids

I wanted my kids involved in the gardening this year.  They learn to grow stuff, and work, and {fingers crossed} eat veggies.  So we did this project making painted rock garden markers.

Painted rocks project for kids. Perfect for garden markers or "pet rocks".

I just got out the stuff and started painting. Use any paints, whatever kind you have, though if you use washable kids paints like I did then you have to clear coat it with clear spray paint or the first time it gets wet all your paint will just run off.  Spray paint in bright colors works well as do acrylics.

My kids joined in as soon as they realized paint was involved.  They came and went, mostly doing one rock each, but the two youngest painted long after I was done.

The rocks are from the yard.  Free is cool.

We used Sharpie markers to write the veggie names.

These are painted rock garden markers. A perfect project for kids.

Big plans, lots of veggies, black thumb of death . . . outcome this year?  Who knows.

But at least we’ll know what we planted and where.

I had been looking for ideas for rock gardening, and came up on your post. I absolutely love this idea! I have 2 boys who would definitely get into helping with these. We have plenty of rocks around here. Great idea for the herb garden we have big aspirations for growing. Good luck with your black thumb!
