The times tables are one of those things every kid should just memorize. It’s ridiculous for a fourteen year old to have to type 5 x 5 into his calculator when he’s doing algebra. Plus it’s a waste of time. This stuff should become automatic. But it’s really a lot to learn. Make it less daunting by mixing up your methods of teaching. Here’s an awesome idea for a times table matching game from Jill at Creating My Way To Success.
She creates the cards with problems and answers that kids have to match like in Memory. To keep it all organized and accessible to her kids she made the cool pouches above, which she explains in step-by-step detain so you can make your own. You can even get the pre-made printable cards and a free e-book about the times tables if you sign up for her free newsletter. I love it! Go visit Jill’s crafty blog and browse around. You’ll probably become a follower like I did.

We’d love to feature you at Layers of Learning too. Just send us an e-mail at contact@layers-of-learning.com with your proposal and a link to your post. We accept family friendly educational material targeted at kids up through high school.
