Have Family Night tonight! Happy family nights make happy families! Time for the family to get together for a little lesson, treat, and a game. And this week’s focus is the Parable of the Lost Sheep from the New Testament.
Start with a little guessing game. Get a jar and put 99 jelly beans or other little candies in it. Then hide one candy somewhere in the room before Family Night begins. Have each person write down their best guess of how many are in the jar. The closest person gets the jar of candies! When you give them the jar, explain that you started out with 100, not 99. There should have been one more, but it’s missing. Go on a hunt together and find the missing jelly bean. Then read Luke 15:3-7.And he spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Who are Jesus’ sheep?
What is He asking to do in the scripture?
Does this parable tell us anything about God’s love for us?
How can we show our love for Him?
Have you ever helped one of Jesus’ sheep?
For another activity, play Hide the Sheep. Print out this little sheep and shepherd on heavy paper and cut it out. Have someone hide the sheep in a room, then everyone else has to come in and find it. If it gets too tough, use the hot and cold game. The finder gets to be the next sheep hider.
For your treat, see if you can convince the jelly bean winner to share.
Have a happy family night! We love to hear about fun your family is having together too. Tell us what you’re up to in a comment or an e-mail, and we may feature your family night!
